Mothers of the Heart | Kristy

I’m so thrilled to honor Kristy as another beautiful woman embracing motherhood and all that comes with it.  As all women that are a part of the Mothers of the Heart project, I welcome her with warm love and gracious hugs.  To read more about the Mothers of the Heart project, go here.

My journey to motherhood started about 10 years ago after we were just married. We wanted children early in our marriage, however, we struggled to get pregnant. We tried on our own for nearly 6 years, and then pursued medical intervention for the past 4 years. Over these years we did almost 20 procedures, including 11 rounds of IVF and suffered through several pregnancy losses. We were tired and weary, and struggling to make the incredibly difficult decisions we were faced with everyday. Our doctor mentioned surrogacy to us a couple of years ago and I was adamant we would not need it, but after a year of praying and discernment, it became clear gestational surrogacy was the most loving thing I could do for our unborn children to have a chance at life.

Our hearts were softened and there was so much unknown about how to proceed forward, but we trusted in God’s perfect plan and within a month we found our surrogate, Kim.BYP-MOH-0517-13

It took us another year to get the required paperwork, medical clearance, and counseling in order to move ahead, but we all endured it and I remember my heart skipped a beat when I saw our embryos transferred into her uterus. BYP-MOH-0517-22BYP-MOH-0517-25

I just knew it was going to work. And now my heart skips a beat when I see our baby girl kick and swim around in Kim’s uterus on the ultrasound. When people ask if I’ll miss giving birth, I often reply with “I already have.” To me I birthed that embryo and the many before it from a place of deep sorrow, dark days, and unfailing faith. I waded through despair and incredible physical pain over these 4 years and I birthed something to life.

Life which Kim will graciously carry to term and life we will forever hold in our arms…
